Richard Wilson Glover

Richard Wilson Glover passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013.

He was born in Newnan, GA, on September 28, 1949. He was the second child born to Dr. Nat and Bobbie Glover. He grew up in Newnan and showed an early aptitude for being a golfer. He was rarely seen frowning on the golf course and was a scratch golfer by the age of 15.

After graduating from Newnan High School, he attended the University of Georgia. He spent the next five years enjoying himself in Athens. He was a member of Chi Phi and a lifelong football fan. He loved to discuss football and watch golf.

He married Deborah Helen Donovan on February 4, 1978. They met in Atlanta at a friend's get-together. Their marriage bore three children: Richard Wilson in 1979, Amanda Whitney in 1982, and Nathaniel Banks in 1987.

Richard worked in construction for most of his life. He worked his way up through the trade and retired in 2011 as a general superintendent for C.P. Richards Construction Co. He used his retirement time wisely. He relished spending time with his grandchildren: Harper Towns Berta, Ella Grace Glover, Richard Wilson Glover III and Caroline Banks Glover. They all knew him as "Grampie" or "Pampie."

Richard will be remembered as a brother, husband, father, friend and mentor. He tirelessly supported all three of his children. He was a soccer and baseball coach, golf teacher, gymnastics supporter, Boy Scout Scoutmaster (Troop 41), and master sandcastle builder (but only at St. Simon's Island).

He was predeceased by his youngest son, Nathaniel Banks, and is survived by his wife, Debbie; his children, Wilson Glover (Katie) and Whitney Berta (Scott); and four grandchildren.

The family requests that no flowers be sent. Donations may be made to Emory Hospital Lung Transplant Center or the Epilepsy Foundation through Emory Neurology Department. Funeral services will be held Monday at 4 p.m. at Central Baptist Church with Joel Richardson officiating.
