Mr. Shane Lamar Long
Mr. Shane Lamar Long, age 38, of Whitesburg, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013.
He was born December 11, 1974 in Carrollton, Georgia, the son of Stanley Lamar Long and Brenda McCord Long. He was a graduate of Central High School in Carrollton and was employed with Coweta-Fayette EMC. He was a devoted family man, and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Whitesburg, which he dearly loved.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Jack and Faith Long and Curtis and Shirley McCord. Survivors include his wife, Penny Thornton Long; his two children, the very special joys of his life, Wesley Shane Long and Abigail Caroline “Abby” Long, all of Whitesburg; parents, Stanley and Brenda Long of Whitesburg; parents-in-law, Mike and Elaine Thornton of Carrollton; sister and brother-in-law: Lindsay and Jamie Godbee of Carrollton, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Michael and April Thomas of Whitesburg, and Jason and Belle Thornton of Talladega, AL; nieces and nephews: Blake, Kailynn, and Macey Thomas, Will and Kiley Godbee, Barrett, Haley and Gage Thornton; aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a host of friends including members of the Central Lion Family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday from Antioch Baptist Church in Whitesburg with Rev. Alvin Hunnicutt, Rev. Kelly Runels, and Coach Ronnie Burchfield officiating. Music will be rendered by Judy Hunnicutt.
Those serving as pallbearers will be Matt Sheffield, Jerome Arrington, Seth Handley, Anthony Walker, Daniel Cason, Robbie Cason, John Pate, and Luke Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be John Groce, Wilson Pate, Wyndel Carnes, Lanny Hammett, Kevin Boatright, and Ronnie Burchfield.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from noon until 3 p.m. and from 6-9 p.m. Messages of condolences may be sent to the family at www.martin-hightower.com .
