Mr. Richard Steve Hines, age 71, passed gently from this world on Feb. 27, 2013, from complications of heart and lung disease.
Steve was born Jan. 9, 1942, of strong East Newnan Village stock and was the son of the Late Van L. “Doc” Hines Jr. and Chloe Phillips Hines.
He graduated from Newnan High School in 1960 and served four years in the United States Navy. Possessed of a strong work ethic instilled in him by his parents, he worked for Delta Airlines for 29 years as a parts foreman.
Following his retirement from Delta, he worked for Playtex International and later for E.G.O. North America.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Evelyn Wright Hines; his sons, Jeff (and Melissa) Hines, Phil (and Miachele) Hines. His brother is Mickey Hines. He was a proud grandfather to Heather (Zach) Heinberg, Drew Hines, Scott Hines, Connor Hines and Chloe Hines.
Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street, where the family will receive friends on Saturday, March 2 beginning at noon. The memorial service for Steve will be held in the McKoon Funeral Home chapel at 2 p.m. Pastor Danny Wilson and Pastor Barry Shoemake will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made in Steve’s memory to American Lung Association, 2492 Spring Road, Smyrna, GA 30080.
