Josie Lee Phillips Bohannon Gordon, 86, passed away Friday, February 22, 2013, at her daughter’s home in Rome, Georgia.
Josie was born August 20, 1926, in Clem, Georgia and was the daughter of the late Horace M. Phillips and Lee Dale Phillips. She was preceded in death by siblings Malbry, Charlie, Martha and Henry, daughter Nancy Ellen Bohannon and husband John “Jack” Polk Bohannon, Sr. Josie was blessed again with love and companionship when she married Lewis Gordon of Savannah, Georgia. Her beloved Lewis passed in 2011.
Josie grew up in Madras, Georgia and attended nursing school at Newnan Hospital. She and Jack raised their family in College Park. She retired as an LPN after many years of service to Newnan Hospital. Moving back to the Bohannon homestead on Martin Mill Road, Jack and Josie attended the Moreland United Methodist Church. After her husband’s death, she moved to Savannah and attended the Wilmington Island United Methodist Church where she and Lewis were members of Senior Friends. They were also members of Belles and Beaus, a senior entertainment troupe who perform for nursing homes and special events.
Josie Gordon is survived by daughter Jane (Randy) Thacker of Rome, Georgia and son John (Kathy) Polk Bohannon Jr. of Savannah, sister Lorene (Bill) Eanes of Pensacola and brother Thomas (Karin) Phillips of San Diego, six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 24 at McKoon Funeral Home, from noon until 2 p.m. with a memorial service immediately following in the chapel.
