Mrs. Gertrude Andrews Atwater, formerly of Newnan, GA, passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Governor’s Glen Assisted Living Facility in Forest Park.
Celebration of Life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at Unity Christian Church, 426 Rivers Road, Fayetteville, GA 30214. She was a pillar of strength in her community and for her family.
Those who shopped at Atwater’s Grocery over the 40 years it was open still share fond memories.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Smith Atwater, and son, Joseph Calvin Hardy. Surviving are 3 sons and their wives, Bobby and Johnetta Hardy, Will and Denise Hardy, Smith and Merrian Atwater; daughter, Patricia Donald; Elaine Hardy (surviving spouse of Joseph Calvin); sisters, Hattie Weems and Lucy Willis; one brother, Earnest Andrews (Mable); as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other loving family and friends. Public viewing will be on Friday, Feb. 8 from 11 a.m. 8 p.m. The family will have a visitation on Friday, Feb. 8 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Viewing will also be available at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the beginning of services. Interment Sunset Cemetery, Newnan.
