Funeral service for Mrs. Florence Maxine Johnson will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, 11 a.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church, 1050 Welcome-Sargent Rd., Newnan, GA. In-state viewing 10 a.m. with Bishop Willie L. Geter officiating. Interment, church cemetery. Viewing is Friday from 2 until 6 p.m. at Roscoe Jenkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Florence Maxine Johnson, “Big Mama,” was born on Sept. 28, 1937, in Coweta County. She departed her life on Jan. 28, 2013, at Southern Crescent Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Arthur and Lucy Mae Paige.
She was the fourth child of eight.
Maxine was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters, along with one half-brother, and by her husband, Matthew Johnson.
She joined the Shady Grove Baptist Church at an early age, where she became a member of the senior choir. Later in life she became a member of the Newnan Socialite Club for over 40 years.
Survivors are five loving daughters: Ms. Linda Gail Geter, Mr. & Mrs. Derrick Huggins (Pam), Ms. Earlene “Netta” Matthews, Mr. & Mrs. Leslie Wynn (Sylvia Ann) of Kennedy, Texas, and Ms. Mildred D. Johnson; sister, Betty Ann Hill; and brothers, Mr. Frank Paige of Macon, GA, and Mr. James Paige and wife, Ann, of Atlanta; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend Mr. William Jr. Huff.
