Vera Mae Thompson, age 80, a resident of Newnan, died peacefully January 18, 2013, at her residence.
She was born in Bibb County, Alabama, on July 28, 1932, and was one of five children born to the late Henry D. and Mary Little Jackson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four brothers, Dalton, Mack, O.T. and Henry. Also preceding her in death was her husband and coworker, W.L. Thompson, as well as a grandson, Christopher Brian Jones.
She was employed by The Newnan Times-Herald for 33 years. She would help compose the layout of the paper and her husband, W.L., was a typesetter. They were constant companions at work and at leisure.
She is survived by her children, Judy Jones and her husband Don of Mobile, AL, Ronnie Thompson and his wife Theresa of Hahirah, GA, and Randy Thompson of Newnan. Her grandchildren are Jamie Tomas and husband Seth, Jimmy Jones and wife Alisha, David Thompson and wife Erin, and Kristina Niehanke. Her beloved great grandchildren are Sydney Rayner-Jones, Morgan Elizabeth Tomas, Hailey Renee Jones, Jacson Thompson, Chase Thompson, Kadon Niehanke, Jennessee Niehanke.
Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson St. The graveside service will be on Sunday, January 20, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Reverend Lamar Truitt officiating.
