Dr. Howard A. Hurley
Dr. Howard A. Hurley, D.V.M., age 79, died on Dec. 31, 2012.
Dr. Hurley was born in College Park, Ga., the youngest son of Archie Preston Hurley and Carrie Belle Satterwhite Hurley. He served our country as a member of the 4th Infantry 22nd Infantry Regiment in Germany during the Cold War. After doing his duty, he returned to the University of Georgia to finish his college work to receive his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1959.
He was accepted into the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine and received his doctorate in 1962. Shortly after his return from Germany, he met his future wife, Charlotte Ann Hagan Hurley. They married in January of 1958. Together they worked to make certain that he could receive his degrees. After his graduation, they selected Newnan as their home.
Dr. Hurley began his practice of large and small animal medicine. He worked to improve the county residents’ impression of veterinarians. Often he worked for the county at no charge to the taxpayer. Dr. Hurley helped Sheriff Potts by doing a necropsy on an animal that had been shot execution style, which led to the discovery of the perpetrator of the killing. These services were done gratis, because he thought it was his civic duty to aid in any way possible.
Dr. Howard A. Hurley is survived by his wife, Charlotte; loving elder brother, Fred and his wife Janet, their children and grandchildren; brother, Douglas and his wife Mildred and their children and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please give memorial gifts to Angel’s House Inc., P.O. Box 657, Newnan, Georgia 30264.
