Mr. George L. Ramsey
Mr. George L. Ramsey, 91, of Smiths Station, Ala., formerly of Newnan, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Ga.
Born Jan. 24, 1921, “G.L.,” was the son of the late G.W. Ramsey and Velma Booker Ramsey.
He retired from Georgia Power Company after 41 years, and later worked for the Southern Company as a consultant.
Following years of transferring to different towns and power plants in Georgia for his job, Ramsey returned to his childhood family farm in Alabama to live out the remainder of his years.
He also served in the United States Navy during World War II as a ship’s mechanic.
Ramsey was a longtime member of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Smiths Station, where he was a deacon.
His hobbies included gardening, raising goats and cows, fishing in his pond and, most of all, deer hunting.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three sisters, twins Doris Thomas and Dorothy Buhler, and Francis Isbell; his first wife, Margie Gaines Ramsey; and his second wife, Winnie Price Ramsey.

Survivors include two children, William R. Ramsey (Alice) and Sandra Blair (Billy); three grandchildren, Christine Ramsey, Beth Blair and Will Blair; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26 at Philadelphia Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. at the church. He will be buried in Lakeview Memory Gardens in Phenix City, Ala.
