Mary Frances Denney 'Fran' Duncan
Mrs. Mary Frances Denney “Fran” Duncan, age 66, of Greensboro, GA, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at her residence.
She was born in Newnan, GA on Nov. 20, 1945, to the late Holland Melson Denney and Marjorie Bailey Denney. She graduated from Newnan High School in 1963. She married Rev. Colin Duncan on Jan. 26, 1963. Her working career began at the First National Bank of Newnan and Newnan Federal Savings and Loan as an administrative assistant from 1963 to 1968. Then she went into the mission field with her husband, Rev. Colin Duncan, serving for three years in Central America, Nicaragua and Mexico from 1968 to 1971 with the Baptist International Missions Inc. out of Chattanooga, TN.
They returned to the United States and she worked as an administrative assistant for Crestwood Christian Academy in Tyrone, GA, from 1971 to 1986. After Rev. Duncan became the pastor for Bethel Fundamental Independent Baptist Church and teacher and principal at Bethel Christian School in Union Point, GA, she was the administrative assistant for the school from 1986 until it closed.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Rev. Colin Kelley Duncan of Greensboro, GA; son-in-law, Bryan Hawkins of Eatonton, GA; sister, Karolyn Denney Williamson of Stockbridge, GA; brother, Holland Denney of Oshawa, Canada; grandson, Ethan Grant Hawkins of Eatonton, GA; mother-in-law, Selma Duncan; nephews, Kevin Williamson and Mark Denney; nieces, Kim Williamson (Steven), Shauna Denney and Sharlene Denney; a number of other relatives and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kelley Briana Duncan Hawkins.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 4 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 3963 Union Point Highway, Union Point, GA 30669, with Rev. Doug Anderson and Rev. Bobby Tomlin officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Bryan Hawkins, Kevin Williamson, Caleb Duncan, Josh Duncan, Scott Kranick and Kevin Couch. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Cooper, Daniel Strozier, Gene Vaught, Jimmy Farmer, Ed Ogletree, Glenn Taylor, John Manley, Gerald Strozier, John Osborne and the girl’s volleyball team. The family received friends 7-9 p.m. Monday at McCommons Funeral Home in Greensboro, GA.
