Mr. Benjamin Noah Murphy of Fayetteville and Columbus, Ga., passed away Aug. 12, 2012, at the age of 32 after a brief illness.
Noah was the son of Burkette Dean Murphy III and Lynn Franklin Murphy. Noah was born in East Point, Ga., on Dec. 20, 1979, and grew up in Fayette County. He attended Woodward Academy in College Park, Ga., graduating in 1998 and then went on to the University of The South in Sewanee, Tenn.
Studying financial law, French, and economics, Noah graduated in 2002 and promptly stepped into his father’s law practice, where he worked for several years before getting his commercial real estate license. Noah traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, and the United States. He loved cruising and had sailed to Alaska, the Mediterranean and the entire western coastline of Europe from Spain and North Africa all the way up to the northern coast of France and Germany. He had a natural aptitude for language and was fluent in several.
In addition to Europe, another of his favorite destinations was New York City. While at Woodward Academy, Noah was an active participant in their musical theater program, and it was there that he developed his love for the theater. He made frequent trips to New York with his parents, where they took in Broadway plays and enjoyed the wonderful fine dining that New York has to offer. Thus, another of Noah’s passions emerged. He loved to cook and was an accomplished chef. He was constantly experimenting with herbs and spices and developing new recipes, trying them out on his willing friends and family!
Noah is survived by his parents; his wife, Julie Hardy Murphy; stepdaughters, Anna Claire Hardy and Rebecca Layne Hardy; and his beloved dogs, Charlie, Shasta, and Sophie. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15 at the chapel of Mowell Funeral Home in Fayetteville, Ga. Dr. Dee Shelnutt will officiate. A graveside service will follow at the Fayetteville City Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions in Noah’s memory to the Joseph A Sams School or PAWS Humane of Columbus, Ga.
