We are students at the University of West Georgia School of Nursing Newnan program and would like to offer two generational perspectives.
Anna, traditional student: As a student straight out of high school, I was a little intimidated and unsure how my college experience would turn out. After finishing my first two years of core classes on the Carrollton campus, I felt like just another face in the crowd of students. However, looking back over my 2 1/2 years in the Newnan Nursing program, I feel like our class has become a caring, supportive family that everyone can learn from. I have nothing but praises for the environment I have learned in. Nursing is an exceptionally challenging, but equally rewarding profession, and I feel that my education through West Georgia has prepared me for the demands of providing quality health care in today's world.
Kathy, non-traditional student: After raising my four children at 40-something, I decided with some procrastination, to return to school to attain my BSN in Nursing. I spoke with UWG nursing alumni who sung the praises of this school's caring atmosphere and decided it was right for me. The program's fine instructors have gone out of their way to ensure that we obtained great clinical experiences, and I have enjoyed practice hours at both the Carrollton and Newnan campus skills labs, complete with simulation dummies and patient rooms. Also, the Newnan campus now offers more classes which make it easier to attain your degree closer to home.
We are excited to begin our careers as nurses and encourage men and women alike to consider this fine and rewarding career. You can find out more about the UWG School of Nursing at www.westga.edu/~nurs . BSN programs for initial licensure, RN-BSN, and MSN programs are available.
