Lee teams take sole possession of first

Lee Middle School's soccer teams took sole possession of first place in the Coweta County Middle School Soccer League standings on Tuesday with victories over Madras in makeup games from last week.

In girls action, Lee earned a 1-0 shutout win at Madras.

Taylor Hendrix scored the game's only goal on an assist from teammate Anna Lauzon and goalie Cheyenne Balliew stopped every shot she faced, as the Timberwolves improved to 5-0-0 on the season.

The game was rescheduled from Oct. 30, due to rain. Madras fell to 3-1-1 with the loss. Lee has a five-point lead in the standings.

In boys action, Jairo Ruiz scored twice for Lee in a 3-2 victory over Madras at Lee Middle. Justin Sharp also scored on an assist from Ruiz, as the Timberwolves improved to 4-0-1 on the season while taking a three-point lead over second-place Madras in the standings.

Mitchell Corley made four saves in goal for Lee.

The Eagles (3-1-1) received goals from Jonathan Cortez and Giovanni Perez, who also had an assist in the loss.

Girls

Smokey Road 1, East Coweta 1: At Smokey Road, both teams picked up a point in the standings. The Wildcats' goal was scored by Brooke Crosby on an assist from Sierra Kellems. Alicia Knight had East Coweta's goal.

Arnall 3, Evans 2: At Arnall, the Knights were able to hold on despite a pair of goals from Evans' Ally Thomas. Arnall got goals from Taylor Deloach, Abby Pepper and Courtney Myers. Taylor Federico had a pair of assists for the Knights (2-1-2). Samantha May also had an assist in the win.

Boys

East Coweta 5, Smokey Road 0: At East Coweta, Bryson Asher had three goals for the Indians (2-0-3), who stayed four points behind Lee and one behind second-place Madras in the standings. Cole Antley and Luke Shumake also scored for East Coweta.

Evans 2, Arnall 1: At Evans, Connor Cox and Grant Hinsley scored goals as the Cougars (1-3-1) earned their first victory of the season. Zac Slaton scored for Arnall (0-3-1) and Brian Rudd had a pair of saves in goal.
