Georgia Department of Transportation announces lane closures on Interstate 85 near Exit 47 (State Route 34/US 27 Alt., Bullsboro Drive) Monday and Tuesday, depending on weather conditions.
There will be north and southbound lane closures near mileposts 46 - 48 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., alternating between right and left lanes near Exit 47.
There will also be east and westbound lane closures on State Route 34 at I-85 (Exit 47) Monday and Tuesday 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. with one right and left lane closed; one remains open to traffic.
This is part of the extensive widening and upgrade project for I-85 through Coweta County that was supposed to be completed by Dec. 31. Motorists should expect shoulder and lane closures on a continuing basis and are advised to use extra caution in construction work zones.
Also, northbound lane closures are planned on State Route 54 in southeastern Coweta County 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily Nov. 23 through Nov. 30, excluding the weekend of Nov. 28-29.
The work is beginning at the Meriwether County Line; SR 54 northbound will have daily single lane closures, said Georgia Department of Transportation region office spokesperson Kimberly Larson.
The DOT has scheduled a single right lane closure as crews continue to resurface SR 54.
Delays are expected in the area as work occurs.
A pilot car will be utilized to assist motorists traveling through this work zone.
Georgia DOT urges travelers to call 511 for updated information about construction projects on interstates and state routes.
