A public hearing on Coweta County’s proposed millage rate is on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting of the Coweta County Board of Commissioners.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. and will be held in the county commission chambers on Perry Street.
County staff is recommending that the commissioners keep the millage rate for the incorporated areas the same as it was last year, 7.79 mills, with a very small decrease in the rate for unincorporated Coweta, from 6.8 to 6.66.
Two other public hearings are on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting.
One is on amendments to the county’s Quality Development Corridor district ordinance. The changes deal with the regulations on outdoor storage and outdoor display.
The other is a rezoning hearing for property at 4308 East Highway 34. The property was formerly the Comforts of Home assisted living facility. The zoning was rural conservation, with a conditional use permit.
R.E.A.L. Change/ Bonnie Wozniak is requesting a rezoning to Office/Institutional, and a conditional use permit to use the facility for a faith-based, temporary residence home for up to 12 women ages 18 to 38. The planning department is recommending approval.
Other items on Tuesday’s meeting agenda include:
• The establishment of “no parking” zones on Derring Circle and Ishman Ballard Road.
• Decisions on a conditional use permit and variance requests for “Kayla Brooke’s Bark ‘N Board, a kennel facility proposed for property on Bear Creek Trail. The Coweta Board of Zoning Appeals recommended denial.
• A buffer variance request from JHP Family Investments for property behind Highway 34 East/ Hollz Parkway. The planning department and Board of Zoning Appeals are recommending approval.
• Bid awards for interior improvements to the Coweta State Court solicitor’s office and window replacement at the 911 center.
The agenda for the meeting, as well as minutes and agenda materials for past meetings, are available at http://cowetacountyga.iqm2.com/Citizens/Default.aspx .
Though the agenda was available Friday afternoon, the agenda materials and supporting documents will no longer be available on Fridays, according to county officials.
Instead, those materials will be posted the Monday before the meeting, at noon, said Patricia Palmer, Coweta’s public affairs director.
“The decision to change the timeline of when the agenda’s supporting documents are available was more a matter of refining our process than anything else,” said Palmer. “This allows the commissioners and County Administrator Theron Gay the weekend to review the details of the items on the agenda. It provides them the opportunity to research the issues at hand and ask questions,” Palmer said. “It is also a last chance to fully review items and be certain they are complete and ready for a commission meeting agenda.”
