So far everything is fitting into place nicely for the East Coweta Lady Indians softball team.
Friday afternoon they relied on some solid hitting and timely pitching to beat Camden County 5-1 in the second day of the Georgia Dugout Club Lead Off Classic tournament.
The Lady Indians have won three games in the event, beating Northgate and Ola on Wednesday. East Coweta also beat Pike County this year to move its record to 4-0.
"It's nice to win, but right now, I am just trying to get everybody as much playing time as possible so we can work on different things, " head coach Franlin Deloach said.
East Coweta stranded seven base runners on base during the the first three innings, but built a 1-0 lead when freshman Maggie Morrow ripped a base hit to score Shemiah Sanchez.
Sanchez has worked plenty of magic with her bat this season and the hot streak continued Friday as she went 3-for-3. Her two-run homer in the fourth inning sparked a three-run explosion and helped East Coweta jump out to a 4-1 lead.
"You don't want her to use all the hits up right now, but she is really seeing the ball well," Deloach said."We just hope some of the girls who are hitting around her start doing the same thing."
Morrow also had two hits and catcher Reba Jones had an RBI late to give the Lady Indians some insurance.
Megan Chocallo pitched four innings of no-hit softballl, striking out at least one batter in every inning and finishing with five for the game. Breanna Payton pitched in relief for the Lady Indians striking out one and giving up just one hit and one run.
Brittany Parker's extra-base hit in the fifth resulted in the only run of the game for Camden County.
East Coweta closes out the tournament with two games today, and Kayla Turner is expected to start at least one of them from the pitching circle.
"We thought this was a a good time to Breanna some work," Deloach said. "It's nice to have three pitchers."
"Everybody got in the game, so that was a good thing," Deloach said.
