Ms. Sherri Jewell Martin Newell, age 52, of Woodbury, Ga., died Saturday July 28, 2012, at Hospice LaGrange in LaGrange, Ga.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2 in the chapel of Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home in Woodbury with Rev. Scotty Fowler officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodbury City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 12:30 until 2 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.

Sherri was born July 9, 1960, the daughter of Doug Martin and Rosa Joann Middlebrooks Martin. She was a homemaker and had worked most of her life as a caregiver. She was a loving and devoted mother, and will be remembered for her gift of laughter, her kindness, and her caring generosity. In her younger years, Sherri was a model. She enjoyed working in plays and the drama team and loved to dance. She had also worked at K-Mart in Thomaston.

Sherri was a member of Genesis Church in Pine Mountain, Ga., and she “loved” her pastor, Scotty Fowler, and her church family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a step-brother, Mike Martin, and a step-sister, Debbie Martin.

Survivors include a son, John “Jovi” Newell; and a daughter, Whitney Brienna “Brie” Newell, both of Woodbury; one step-son, Bill Newell of Thomaston, Ga.; her pet companion, “Bella”; a brother, John Charles Oglesby Jr. of Knoxville, Tn.; a sister, Angela Sue Oglesby Brown of Newnan, Ga.; two nephews, Keith Logan Oglesby Sr. of Knoxville, Tn., Thomas “T.J.” Fowler Jr., of Newnan, Ga.; and a special aunt, Agnes Melton of Woodbury, Ga.
