Mr. Lewis G. Phillips Jr.

Mr. Lewis G. Phillips Jr., 90, of Brooks, GA, and formerly of Hogansville, GA, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at his home.

Mr. Phillips was born March 26, 1922, in Langdale, AL, son of the late Lewis and Allie Gay Phillips.

An Army Air Corps veteran of World War Two, he lived in Hogansville most of his life before making his home in Brooks in 2004. He retired as a city letter carrier from the Hogansville Post Office after 36 years of service.

He was a member of Woolsey Baptist Church and was a former member of First Baptist Church of Hogansville, where he served many years as a deacon, chairman of the ushers, and director of the Brotherhood and the Royal Ambassadors.

Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Patti Lynn Phillips, Beverly and Andy Rhodes; and granddaughter, Meredith Rhodes, all of Brooks; sister, Lois Langford of Griffin; sister-in-law, Mildred Phillips of Hogansville.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mavis Moore Phillips; grandson, Matthew Michael Rhodes; brother, Thaniel Phillips; sister and brother-in-law, Maecenies and Doc Robinson; and brother-in-law, Herman Langford.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, June 22 in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Rev. Clay Edge, Rev. Clinton Hughes, and Rev. Miguel Vila will officiate, with interment in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until 2 p.m. Friday.
