A 610,600-pound machine press will be moved from the Port of Savannah to the Sewon America, Inc., plant in LaGrange this weekend, reports the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Sewon is a supplier of various automobile parts for the KIA Motors Manufacturing Georgia plant in West Point.
All movements will occur during overnight hours and will be made in conjunction with a multiple-vehicle law enforcement escort. They are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Port of Savannah’s Ocean Terminal and proceed via Interstate Highway 16 west to Interstate Highway 75 north at Macon; concluding at approximately 2:40 a.m. Sunday at the Weigh Station in Forsyth.
The 31-axle, 254-foot-long vehicle transporting the press will remain at the weigh station until approximately 9 p.m. Sunday, when it will depart for Interstate Highway 285 westbound and Interstate Highway 85 southbound near Atlanta, passing through Coweta County and arriving at the Sewon facility at approximately 2 a.m. Monday.
The transport vehicle is 18 feet wide and will move no faster than 45 mph, often considerably slower. Motorists should exercise extreme caution in its vicinity and follow instructions from the law enforcement escort, said DOT officials.
