Newnan Downtown Development Authority members voted to have staff move forward with plans to install informational kiosks downtown.
JoAnn Gentry, Main Street Newnan manager, presented various design options to the authority during its regular monthly meeting Wednesday at Newnan City Hall.
The proposed design will include a powdered black single pole holding up a display case that highlights the various businesses and parking downtown. The kiosks will be about waist-high and be slanted for easier viewing.
“We don’t have exact locations picked out yet,” said Hasco Craver IV, business development director for the city.
In other action:
• Staff presented the authority’s year-to-date budget.
Total revenues through mid-June are $78,600. That includes almost $40,000 from the Taste of Newnan and slightly more than $12,000 for Market Day.
Total expenses to date are $51,280. Of that, about $32,300 was from Taste of Newnan and $4,177 for the annual banquet.
• The authority also approved paperwork to start the loan process for a $44,697 loan through the state Department of Community Affairs for Gillyweed, which recently opened at 8 Jackson Street, as a boutique shop. The loan is to help cover costs with acquiring and renovating the store.
“The city and the authority are not liable for this loan,” pointed out authority chairman Casey Smith. The loan’s terms are for 15 years at 2 percent interest.
