Mrs. Dorothy Sewell Watkins

Mrs. Dorothy Sewell Watkins, age 91, gently passed away in the comfort of her home and family on June 7, 2012.

She was a native of Coweta County and was born July 5, 1921, and was the daughter of the late William Pope and Nora Dee Sewell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Gladys S. Hyde, Elizabeth S. Parham and Annie S. Parham. Her husband, George Candler Watkins, to whom she was married on Dec. 28, 1938, died in 1994. She is survived by her daughter, Joy Watkins; son, James C. Watkins; sister, Sara S. Stewart — all of Newnan.

Her brothers are W. Lee Sewell (Emily) of Marietta, GA, C. Thomas Sewell of Pasadena TX, and Bobby R. Sewell (Martha) of Newnan, GA. Also surviving her is her extended family of nieces and nephews, and a dear personal friend, Margie Bass.

Mrs. Watkins, “Dot,” had worked as a hairdresser, but her greatest joys in life were found in her home and family and the loving fellowship of her family at Macedonia Baptist Church. She was deeply involved in the life of the church as long as her health permitted.

Funeral arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street, where the family will receive friends on Friday evening between 5 and 8 p.m. The funeral service will be on Saturday, June 9 at 11 a.m. in the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with Dr. John Riley and Reverend Searcy Jackson officiating.

Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Watkins’ memory may be honored by a contribution to The Fund for the New Sanctuary at Macedonia Baptist Church 1504 Macedonia Road Newnan, GA 30263.
