Every appliance, light fixture, and piece of furniture at the Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity Restore is inspected by staff or volunteers to ensure it is in excellent condition and can be placed on the sales floor.
But who inspects the toilets? Who will give the (mostly pre-owned) toilets the TLC needed to be put on the sales floor?
The answer is Habitat volunteer John Hoth, an illustrious fixer-upper who claims that he can fix anything industrial or for the home.
Hoth proves this to be true by volunteering and displaying his paramount craftsmanship every week at Newnan-Coweta ReStore, located on Pine Road near the Coweta County Fairgrounds.
Hoth inspects anywhere from two to 12 toilets each week. The toilets that Hoth fixes sell for between $25 and $55. There are many standard toilets at ReStore, and occasionally water-efficient flush toilets can be found, too.
Some of the toilets that come to the Habitat ReStore arrive clean and new, while others have missing parts and need repairs. Hoth sees to it that when customers arrive at the ReStore they won’t be able to decipher which toilets are new from which toilets are used.
“I make sure every toilet is showroom-quality. I like to work on the johns. I have a good time,” says Hoth.
“Toilets are one of the most popular items at the ReStore,” says Sharon Hazel, Restore manager. “They are usually sold within one to two business days.”
Hoth volunteers twice a week at the Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity ReStore – a resale outlet store that takes new or gently used household items, appliances and building materials and sells them to the public for 50 to 90 percent below retail prices. All proceeds from the ReStore are used to support the Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity’s mission to be a self-help homeownership organization that works in partnership with low-income families to provide safe, decent, affordable houses and stable communities in Coweta County.
