It’s rodeo time in Coweta.

The Coweta Cattlemen’s Association 22nd Annual Championship Rodeo will be held tonight and Saturday at the Coweta County Fairgrounds.

It’s a professional rodeo with bull and bronc riding, roping, and barrel racing, as well as rodeo clowns. There will also be performances both nights by the Coweta County 4-H Mounted Drill Team.

In addition to the rodeo, there will be activities for children — including a rock climbing wall and pony rides — vendors selling western wear and tack, and a concession stand.

And new this year is something for adults — a chance to try their skills out on a mechanical bull.

Tonight is “family night,” with children admitted half-price when accompanied by an adult.

Friday is also 4-H night, with a portion of the proceeds going to help fund a covered livestock arena at the fairgrounds.

And Saturday is “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” night, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit the Sue Verner Jones Foundation. The foundation, which was founded in 2006, helps Coweta breast cancer patients who are in need.

Admission is $12 for adults, and $6 for children 4 to 12. Children 3 and under enter for free. Tickets are sold at the gate and are cash only.

The show begins at 8 each night. Gates open at 6, and the various activities, including the pony rides, begin at 6.

“Come on out and enjoy some family fun while supporting the Coweta Cattlemen’s Scholarship program, Coweta County 4-H, and numerous other community projects and activities,” said Fred Hall, rodeo chairman. “We look forward to a great time for all ages.”

“I think we’re going to have a fantastic rodeo,” Hall said. “I think the weather is going to cooperate with us, and everything is coming together real well.”

The rodeo is sanctioned by the International Professional Rodeo Association.

Events include bull riding, calf roping, saddle bronc riding, bareback bronc riding, team roping, breakaway roping, steer wrestling, and barrel racing.

Cowboys and cowgirls will be coming from across the country to compete in the Coweta rodeo. There will also be local competitors in the bull riding and barrel racing events.

A schedule of competitors is available at www.rodeosportsnetwork.com .
