Readers respond regarding timing of intersection work

Editor’s note: Here is a sampling of readers’ comments -- posted on times-herald.com -- to our Thursday editorial stating Monday-Friday next week is a bad time to close the railroad intersection at Highway 154 (Sharpsburg McCollum Road) and U.S. 29 North near Interstate 85 exit 51 for crossing improvements.

— I agree completely. Why can’t they wait until school is out at the very least ... that alone would be helpful to the county residents.

— I have to agree. Wait for school to be out and do it on the weekend. And since another person in Coweta County understands how busy Highway 154 from Highway 34 to U.S. 29 is, how about finally making it a four-lane?

— I don’t care what it takes, I’m just glad they are repairing this crossing. I cross it daily. It’s horrible. Thank you, CSX, for the repairs. I’ll gladly take an alternate route next week.

— The timing does seem inconsiderate. Waiting until school is out makes a lot more sense. Come on, CSX, think about the community for once.

— I think you nailed it. It “may not be desirable” for the union crews to work on the weekend. Please don’t inconvenience them. Must be a union rule.

— Apparently the county has no pull when it comes to any road work in this county. It took over a year to get AT&T to move the cables at Highway 154 and Lower Fayetteville Road. What makes you think they could have any say in closing this intersection at a more sensible time? They need to buck up and do something that helps the convenience of citizens.

— Don’t blame union workers. They don’t make the schedule. People in this county complain when repairs aren’t made and they complain when repairs are made. Does anyone have anything positive to say.

— Yet more complaining. There are other roads. It may be a long way around, but it’s not impossible. You know that people will read this article, see the crews, and get mad at the guys just trying to put food on the table. Why slam the project? Not to mention your probable ignorance on railroad maintenance in the first place. Maybe this is the best week for this intersection. Maybe it just happened that way and waiting a week wastes company money. Articles like this are highly irritating.
