Veteran is very proud of Newnan

My wife and I are planning to move to Newnan for a couple of reasons. One, to be near family. The other is because we are very impressed with the city of Newnan and the people we have met here. One thing in particular that impressed us was the love and respect shown to the area’s Vietnam veterans and their families when The Wall was brought to the area.

I served in Vietnam in 1967-1968. I also went through many of the experiences Chief Warrant Officer 2 Wayne Ethridge experienced when he returned home. I also have no respect for Hanoi Jane and those who supported her.

I am proud to say I met and became friends with Joe Brooks and was able to contribute a small donation from my VFW post and 40/8 organization in Indiana to help with the project undertaken by the Newnan community to bring The Wall and honor the Vietnam veterans from Coweta County and their families.

My wife and I came to Newnan for that event and attended many of the programs.

I must say Newnan did an outstanding job recognizing what we went through and honoring those who paid the ultimate price and their families. The whole week was so well organized and respectful toward veterans. It was great to see the participation of the community and the interest shown by area residents from the enthusiastic crowd that greeted the wall as it entered the town to the takeoff of the helicopter from the fairgrounds on the last day.

If anyone in the county felt slighted by this program, I’m sure it was completely unintentional.

It seemed the committee tried every possible way to include all members of the community. One thing is certain, we veterans are proud to have served and the city of Newnan knows and appreciates our service.
