Newnan High’s girls lacrosse team prepared for next week’s first-round Class AAAAA playoff game at home during Wednesday’s trip to Northview.
The Lady Cougars, who finished as the No. 2 seed out of Area 1-AAAAA, were challenged by 3-AAAAA’s fifth-place lineup in a13-12 loss that featured a combined nine goals from seniors Maggie McDaniel and McKynsey Douglas. Newnan jumpstarted its offense in the second half, with McDaniel scoring four of her five goals.
Douglas split her four-goal effort with a pair in each 25-minute half. She also assisted on two goals, while McDaniel also set up one and finished with a team-high eight ground balls.
Miranda Wagstaff also finished with a two-goal effort and Sydney Garmany had a goal and an assist for Newnan (9-7-2), who await the No. 3 seed from Area 4-AAAAA in the first round. Collins Hill, Grayson and Duluth are all separated by a half-game for fourth place heading into today’s regular season finale.
Sophomore goalie Lindsay Stewart made 21 saves for the Lady Cougars.
