by Wes Mayer

A store clerk was injured in a shooting Saturday on East Broad Street, according to Newnan Police Department authorities.

Around 8:45 p.m., Newnan Police Department Officer Brandon Johnson was dispatched regarding a shooting at the Little Rush convenience store located at 119 East Broad St., at Pinson Street.

According to Johnson, when he arrived on the scene, a man and woman, Edward Furlow and Vivian Hinton, were standing outside the convenience store. Furlow told Johnson that the clerk inside had been shot but was still breathing.

According to Johnson, the clerk, Sanjay Patel, was slumped over the cash register with his face, head and arms covered in blood. Coweta County Emergency Medical Service vehicles quickly arrived on scene and Patel was treated and later transported to the Atlanta Medical Center via Life Flight helicopter.

The scene was then turned over to Newnan Police Criminal Investigation Division Sergeant Chad Wood. The suspect is still unknown at this time.
