Teen arrested for golf cart thefts, burglary in the Canongate area

By John Winters

The Newnan Times-Herald

An 18-year-old was arrested and charged with stealing three golf carts from a Canongate golf course over a several-day period.

Daniel Kain Elliott, of Warrior Way, admitted to Coweta County Sheriff's Office deputies he took the golf carts and was booked into the Coweta County Jail on three counts of theft by taking and one count of burglary, according to jail records and incident reports.

Deputies with the sheriff's office were called Sunday to the Canongate Golf Club on Shaw Road in north Coweta County in reference to the theft of a golf cart. The police report said it was the third such theft.

Canongate employees were able to identify Elliott after watching tapes from a security camera. Deputies went to Elliott's home and he made a full confession, according to the sheriff's office incident report. In addition, Elliott confessed to breaking into a neighbor's pool house, which led to the burglary charge.

One of the golf carts was found earlier on Persimmon Drive, near where Elliott lives. The second was found by deputies in the same area, but it was hidden in kudzu and had recently been painted brown, the report said.

On the way to jail, Elliott showed deputies where the third cart was located, the report added.
