Two weekends of Christmas-welcoming events are coming up in downtown Senoia.
The city's annual Christmas parade and tree lighting will be held this coming Saturday.
And Dec. 13 will feature both visits from the Budweiser Clydesdales and the Candlelight Tour of Homes, all part of Senoia's holiday open house.
This Saturday's Light Up Senoia event will feature not only the parade and tree lighting, but also singing from local groups, a food court, visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and a Secret Santa workshop for children to buy inexpensive Christmas gifts for family and friends.
Participation in the parade is free and all are welcome, but pre-registration is required. You can download a registration form at www.senoia.com . Or, contact Suzanne Helfman at 770-599-8182 or Gail Downs at 770-599-9155. The deadline for parade registration is Thursday. Forms are also available at the Senoia Welcome Center at 9 Main Street. The center is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
The food court and Secret Santa Workshop will open at 4 p.m., said Helfman, chairwoman of the Senoia Downtown Development Authority. Entertainment will start around 5 p.m., and the parade begins at 5:30.
After the parade, Santa will light the big tree, and then visit with children. Parents can take their own, free, pictures. There will not be a professional photographer, Helfman said.
Senoia First Baptist Church, at 41 Johnson Street, will feature a live nativity scene Saturday night, as well.
The Secret Santa Workshop, at 18 Main St., will have a wide variety of items in the $1-$3 range, Helfman said. The workshop will be staffed with volunteers who can help children make their purchases, Helfman said.
The famous Clydesdales will be in town from 1-3 p.m. on Dec. 13. The horses, and their wagon, will travel up and down Main Street, and then will stop for people to admire.
This is the third year that the Clydesdales have visited Senoia.
"They're a huge draw for people, and especially at Christmas," Helfman said. "It draws so many people who just want a chance to look at these really magnificent creatures. To see them up close is just different," Helfman said.
Downtown Senoia shops, usually closed on Sundays, will be open Dec. 13, Helfman said.
The Candlelight Tour of Homes runs from 5-8 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance, and $15 on Sunday. Tickets are available at the Senoia Welcome Center, and several downtown shops.
The tour features the sanctuary of Senoia First Baptist Church, the Humphrey-Wood home at 9 Johnson Street, the Freeman-Fiorini house at 279 Pylant Street, the McKnight-Mann-Yarbrough home at 268 Pylant, the Arnall-King House at 234 Morgan Street and the Hardy House at 298 Seavy Street.
