Robber escapes with guns from Greenville Street business

By Amy Lott

The Times-Herald

During a local man's efforts to halt a burglary in progress at a Greenville Street auto service shop Aug. 23, according to Newnan Police officers, an unknown male offender pointed a gun at him and escaped with several other weapons stolen from the store.

In Officer Phil Hines' report, he said police personnel arrived on the scene at Stephens Tire and Wrecker around 4:45 a.m. to find a broken window. Joe and Joey Stephens said a suspect threw a large concrete block through the glass, entered the business behind the counter and removed an AK-47 with a loaded 30-round clip and a Colt 45 semi-automatic handgun, according to Hines.

As the suspect was attempting to leave the business, Joey came out from behind the business and pepper-sprayed the man three times, Hines said. The offender then reportedly aimed a pistol at Joey and fled the area, leaving a blood trail.

The value of the guns taken from the store, including a limited edition Audie Murphy Tribute .45 pistol, was estimated at $3,395.
