The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into an alleged domestic violence incident that occurred in Coweta County on Sunday between a Union City police officer and his wife.
Larry Barner, 35, a certified police officer for Union City, was arrested Sunday afternoon on a domestic violence charge, according to Coweta County Sheriff Mike Yeager.
The Coweta Sheriff's Office received a call on Sunday at approximately 1:30 p.m. regarding a dispute between a husband and wife at 22 Sweetbriar Road in Coweta, according to the sheriff.
Barner admitted that he and his wife had a verbal argument prior to his wife leaving the residence. He contacted his wife by cell phone and urged her to return.
The alleged victim spoke with sheriff deputies, who noticed she had apparent minor injuries to her neck, shoulders and forearm -- all evidence that a physical altercation had taken place, which the alleged victim then confirmed.
"Based on her statements and the visible injuries, [Larry Barner] was placed under arrest without incident," said Yeager.
Union City was notified of Barner's arrest.
The GBI's criminal investigation is ongoing.
