Owens, Fisher eager to continue work in Senoia

By Sarah Fay Campbell

The Times-Herald

Returning Senoia City Councilmen Larry Owens and Jeff Fisher are happy with the results of Tuesday's election and hope the decision of the voters shows that Senoia residents are pleased with their city government.

Fisher was appointed to the council in April to fill the unexpired seat of Keith Harrison.

Owens was elected Tuesday to his fourth term on the council.

Both Owens and Fisher will be Senoia's first elected officials to serve four-year terms.

The city traditionally has two year terms and an election every year. Recent changes to federal early-voting rules made holding city elections during a federal election problematic, so the city voted last year to implement four-year terms.

"I hope to continue to serve the good citizens of Senoia for the next four years to the best of my abilities," Owens said. "And I will continue to serve with the citizens' best interests at heart."

Owens said he has "some projects that we are trying to work on and develop ... I'm looking forward to the next four years."

"I am honored to have this opportunity to serve four additional years," said Fisher. He enjoyed serving as an appointed member of the council, but by winning an election, "it feels more deserving, like I actually belong to Senoia, that I have been accepted, and that is a great feeling," Fisher said.

He's glad the election is over, though. "I'm tired. I spent 12 hours out there yesterday" campaigning, he said.

Fisher said he feels the reelection of the two incumbents "is an affirmation that the work the entire city council has been doing is a good thing."

Fisher also had kind words for challenger Harry Ramos.

"I've seen a lot of elections in Washington, D.C. I see how nasty they can get," he said. "Larry and Harry were gentlemen. This whole thing was so civil. I am most impressed with them both," Fisher said.

Tuesday night, all three men gathered at the local Irish pub. "We sat down and talked as if nothing had ever happened," Fisher said. "That's a testament to Harry Ramos."
