Carrollton woman drowns in surf at Gulf Shores, Ala.

GULF SHORES, Ala. (AP) – Baldwin County authorities say a Georgia woman drowned after being caught in a rip current while swimming with her family in the Gulf of Mexico surf. The Press-Register ( http://bit.ly/K3mJ3M ) reports that 41-year-old Angie Laney of Carrollton, Ga., drowned Monday afternoon. Laney was pulled from the surf by her husband. Sheriff's office Maj. Anthony Lowery says Laney was treated by medical personnel at the scene but never regained consciousness. Lowry told the Times-Georgian that Laney was swimming with her eldest son and daughter-in-law at the time of the accident.
Laney was staying with her family at the Gulf Shores Plantation Resort for a planned weeklong vacation. --- Information from: Press-Register, http://www.al.com/press-register/ © 2012 The Associated Press.
