Ga. police look to expand info-sharing network
Atlanta police say a web-based information sharing program has changed the way they investigate gang-related crime.
Police spokesman Carlos Campos said Monday that the department partnered with Atlanta-based software developer Formulytics to launch the Atlanta Police Intelligence Network.
Campos says the program is an online platform that arranges investigations in a way that helps authorities investigate the organized nature of certain crimes — specifically gang activity — instead of focusing on individual incidents.
He says this helps investigators see larger patterns and the bigger picture of gang-related activity in certain areas.
Campos says the department has been in discussions with agencies from neighboring jurisdictions about adopting the information sharing program. Campos says the department and Formulytics are working on a pilot to integrate neighboring counties into the network.
