Fire heavily damages church in Spalding County

GRIFFIN, Ga. (AP) – Authorities are investigating a fire that heavily damaged a church in Spalding County. Fire officials say the blaze was discovered during the early morning hours Wednesday at New Salem Baptist Church on New Salem Road. The church is in the Vaughn community northeast of Griffin. No injuries were reported. Spalding County Fire Marshal Eddie James tells WSB-TV that the building was fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived.
