Coweta County Public Library System and volunteers from the AARP Foundation have partnered once again to prepare federal and state tax returns for free.
Volunteers will be at the A. Mitchell Powell Jr. Library, 25 Hospital Road in Newnan, on Wednesdays starting tomorrow and through April 11. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each Wednesday -- for directions call 770-253-3625.
The program will be offered at Central Library, 85 Literary Lane in east Coweta, on Thursdays Feb. 2-April 12 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The number at Central Library for directions is 770-683-2052.
The volunteers will be at the Heard County Public Library, 564 Main Street in Franklin one day only -- March 13, a Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For information at the Heard County Library call 706-675-6501.
Taxpayers are requested to bring a copy of last year's (2010) tax return, all copies of W-2 forms, 1099 forms, Social Security Benefits Statement, all interest or dividends received statements, unemployment compensation statements, all forms indicating a tax paid in 2011, dependent child care provider information, all receipts or canceled checks for itemizing deductions and Social Security cards or other official documentation for the taxpayer and all dependents.
Free electronic filing of returns is encouraged, said Jimmy Taylor who is working with the program this year. All ages are welcome to have their returns completed. Some extensive or complicated returns will not be accepted.
Historically the Central Library location has had a shorter wait time than other locations, Taylor noted.
