Inclement weather instruction letter sent home with Coweta students

by Celia Shortt

As the Atlanta area prepares for possible severe weather Tuesday morning, the Coweta County School System was sending a letter home Monday with all students with procedures should the severe weather be an issue.

Dear Parents, With a forecast for potential storms tomorrow morning, this letter is to inform you of inclement weather procedures. During times of severe weather watches, we monitor the weather and proceed with arrival and dismissal based upon conditions. As needed, adjustments are made. During times of tornado warnings, we re-route buses to the nearest school sites and shelter in place. We also utilize fire stations if needed. Once the tornado warning has been lifted, if safe to do so, we resume bus service. Please monitor the weather tomorrow morning (Tuesday, April 29), and in the case of severe threatening weather, remain with your child until buses arrive. During threatening weather, we will make decisions concerning our transportation schedule based on student safety and current conditions. Thank you for helping us as we work to keep all of our students safe.

Sincerely, Steve B. Barker, Ed.D, Superintendent

On Sunday a line of severe weather brought thunderstorms and tornados to the western part of the country, including Arkansas. Those storms are now headed this way and could hit the Atlanta area around 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.
