Visitors to this weekend's Coweta County Cattlemen's Association rodeo will have the chance to see bull riding, calf roping, bronc riding, steer wrestling, barrel racing and professional rodeo clowns -- all in Coweta County.
The athletes participating in the Friday and Saturday rodeo at the Coweta County Fairgrounds are members of the International Professional Rodeo Association. The Coweta rodeo is one of 15 IPRA-sanctioned events taking place this month nationwide from California to South Carolina.
Gates for the rodeo will open both nights at 7 with grand entry at 8 p.m.
The 20th annual local benefit rodeo event will include vendors on the grounds of the Pine Road complex.
Concessions will also be available.
Admission prices are $10 for adults, $6 for kids ages 4 to 12, with children 3 and younger admitted free.
"Funds raised from the annual event are used to support the Coweta 4-H program, Coweta County Cattlemen's Inc. Scholarship Program, and to support numerous other community projects and activities," said rodeo co-chair Frank Sullivan.
Friday night is Family Night with all children admitted for half price when accompanied by an adult.
"We hope you'll come out and enjoy the rodeo," said co-chair Bart Cauthen.
For the Saturday night rodeo, Cowetans are challenged to be "Tough Enough to Wear Pink." A portion of the Saturday proceeds go to the Newnan-based Sue Verner Jones Foundation, established in 2005 to help breast cancer patients and their families.
In 2004 Sue Verner Jones lost her battle with breast cancer. During her illness her daughters saw, personally, the unanticipated strains it brought to the family. Jones' daughters formed the foundation to honor her memory.
Since its first fundraiser in 2005, the foundation has helped local cancer victims with hospital and pharmaceutical bills not covered by insurance. The foundation has provided wigs, prosthetics, caretaking and other needs for those undergoing treatment. The organization also contributed to a bone marrow transplant.
The Sue Verner Jones Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and at http://www.svjfoundation.com there is more information.
