Bank theft suspect identified

Authorities in Georgia and Florida have identified a suspect in connection with the theft of tens of thousands of dollars from the bank accounts of Coweta County residents.

To date, there are 139 cases involving more than $150,000 stolen from accounts at Bank of North Georgia, according to Investigator Chad McDonald with the Coweta County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said the suspect is using a cloned Bank of North Georgia debit card to make withdrawals at ATM machines in Florida. The same suspect has been captured on numerous ATM surveillance photos using cloned cards to make withdrawals in various Florida cities, including Wellington, West Palm Beach, Lake Worth and Stuart, McDonald said.

"Numerous other banks have received requests from us and will be providing photographs in the coming days," McDonald said.

South Florida media outlets, including numerous television stations, are already covering the story because the thefts are occurring in their coverage area.

Other uses of the stolen data were reported in Texas and Louisiana. The only common denominator is all the stolen financial information is coming from Bank of North Georgia customers.

"Authorities and bank investigators are still investigating exactly how these customer’s information was obtained," said Lieutenant Detective Jason Ercole with the Senoia Police Department, which is also involved in the case.
