Former Newnan resident meets Pres. Obama

Former Newnan resident Camille Trott is greeted by Pres. Barack Obama when he visited Arthur Blank’s office in Atlanta.

Camille L. Trott recently had an unforgettable experience when she met the president of the United States.

Trott was the pastor’s wife at Greater Mt. Zion AME Church in Newnan for several years. Her husband, David Trott, has been pastor at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Decatur since early this year.

Camille Trott works for Arthur Blank’s Family Office. Blank is co-founder of The Home Depot and owns the Atlanta Falcons.

“I had the wonderful opportunity of working first-hand on the president of the United States’ visit to our office,” Trott said. Pres. Barack Obama visited Blank’s office in Atlanta on May 19.

“It was certainly a great honor and privilege to work at the forefront with the DSCC, the White House Communications Agency, the United States Secret Service – and even the White House press team,” Trott said. “One would only dream of such an opportunity, and I feel tremendously blessed to have been part of the lead team.”

Trott actually met Obama before, when he was serving in the U.S. Senate.

It was particularly exciting, however, for her to see him again as president – in some ways an experience that speaks to dreams coming true. One of Trott’s favorite quotes is from Maya Angelou: “A person is the product of their dreams. So make sure to dream great dreams. And then try to live your dream.”

“I would have never imagined that I would be able to be personally introduced to the president of the United States and work with his team,” the former Newnan resident said.

While busy with her work and with the excitement of their new church home, Trott said Greater Mt. Zion and Newnan will always be special to her and her husband.

“Our hearts will always have a place there in Newnan,” she said.
