Extras Needed

TV, movie filming under way

If you’ve always wanted to be on TV, this might be your chance.

Filming for the fifth season of the Lifetime Television series “Drop Dead Diva” recently started in Peachtree City, and extras are needed.

Marinella Casting is currently seeking “background artists” — better known as extras, for the series; the agency is also actively seeking extras for “The Million Dollar Arm,” a Disney movie.

“The Million Dollar Arm” is about Asian cricket players who are recruited to come to the U.S. to play Major League Baseball. Filming is currently under way in India and will come to Georgia next month.

“Drop Dead Diva” was cancelled in January by Lifetime, but was brought back after an outpouring of fan feedback. There will be 13 episodes in the fifth season.

“People don’t know that it is back and in full production in Peachtree City,” said Rebecca Single of Team Marinella.

Extras who are chosen “can come to Peachtree City, be on set all day, get paid and be on TV,” she said.

Standard extra pay is $79.95 plus two meals. Single said it’s a great opportunity for people with flexible schedules, including college students, stay-at-home moms and those between jobs.

Some people take off work just because they really want a chance to be on television or in a movie. “We have lawyers and doctors who want to do this on their day off,” Single said, adding that Marinella really likes to incorporate the community into the film productions. “We would love to get more people from Newnan involved,” she said.

Applying is easy. Adults should email three photos, as well as their name and stats — height, weight age, and clothing sizes. And cell phone number.

“You would not believe how many people send us pictures without their cell phone number,” Single said.

There should be one head shot, one shot showing from the waist up, and one full-size shot. Photos should be clear, but they don’t need to be professional. In fact, “we don’t want professional,” Single said.

Those wanting to be extras on Drop Dead Diva are encouraged to look the part of a put- together person. A Sunday suit or Sunday dress, looking your best, is ideal, Single said.

The needs for “The Million Dollar Arm” are for extras who appear to look like they are from India, Sri Lanka or Nepal, as well as twins and cricket players.

Those under 18 are also welcome to apply as extras. Only one photo, a full-length shot, is needed. “Just a cute picture… well lit, wearing something cute,” Single said.

Photos and information should be sent to FifthDiva@gmail.com for “Drop Dead Diva,” CricketTAtl13@gmail.com for “The Million Dollar Arm” and KidCastATL@gmail.com for those under 18.

The needs for “Drop Dead Diva” change all the time. “Last week we needed a baby, then we needed a woman who was so many weeks pregnant, then we needed twins,” Single said.

Many of the extras are for courtroom scenes, and they sometimes need bailiffs. They keep all applications on file, and when they have a call for something specific, “Of course, we are going to go to our files first,” Single said.

Those who are chosen will need two forms of government-issued ID, such as a driver’s license, passport, birth certificate or Social Security card.

Single encourages anyone who is interested in being an extra to also ‘like’ Bill Marinella Casting on Facebook. “That way they can receive daily updates,” she said.
