Looking forward to this week's graduation ceremonies are, from left, East Coweta High's salutatorian Rachael Ana and valedictorian Saeyun Lee, Newnan High's salutatorian Abigail Palmer Gordon and valedictorian Jonathan Kelly Swenson and Northgate's salutatorian Bharath Ramanathan Shankar and valedictorian Clint Russell Garn.

As the Coweta County school year comes to a close, the county’s high schools are preparing for their major year-end events.

The last day of school will be Friday, and the senior classes of all three high schools held Baccalaureate services Sunday.

“High school graduation ceremonies will be held on each of Coweta’s three high school’s campuses on three different days,” said Dean Jackson, public information officer for the school system.

Central Educational Center will honor dual-enrollment students at a ceremony on Wednesday. That program will be held at 7 p.m. at the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts.

“Over 100 dual-enrolled students who have earned a diploma or certificate from West Georgia Technical College are expected to participate in the program,” Jackson said.

Newnan High School’s graduation will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Drake Stadium. Bass Gymnasium will be the site if it rains.

Newnan High’s 2013 valedictorian is Jonathan Kelly Swenson, and salutatorian is Abigail Palmer Gordon.

Northgate’s graduation will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Henry Seldon Field. Johnny Brown Gymnasium is the rain location.

Northgate’s 2013 valedictorian is Clint Russell Garn, and salutatorian is Bharath Ramanathan Shankar.

East Coweta’s ceremonies are set for 9 a.m. on Saturday. Shoemake Stadium will be the location, with exercises held in Thrower Gymnasium if it rains.

East Coweta High’s 2013 valedictorian is Saeyun Lee, and the salutatorian is Rachael Ana Scott.

“East Coweta High School will also be offering the use of school system buses to transport people to and from the school’s graduation ceremony again this year, to help to alleviate parking congestion experienced at past graduations,” Jackson said.

On Saturday, there will be shuttle buses running to the ECHS campus from Lee Middle School, Willis Road Elementary School and Poplar Road Elementary School. “People attending graduation can park at these sites and ride buses to the campus,” Jackson said.

Buses will begin running at 7 a.m. from all three sites, and will continue running “until all participants are back at their cars,” Jackson said. In addition, each of these parking sites will be staffed with deputies for security purposes.

There also will be volunteers who will assist with parking vehicles.
