Volunteers urged to help Meals on Wheels honor mothers

by W. Winston Skinner

Meals on Wheels of Coweta is seeking volunteers and encouraging them to help out in honor of their mothers.

“Meals on Wheels of Coweta needs volunteers to deliver meals, perform handyman work and serve as friendly volunteers,” said Lizabeth Andrew, MOWOC president. She said people “interested in volunteering are invited to an open house” at the Meals on Wheels office on Thursday.

The office is located in the Rutledge building at 61 Hospital Road. Open house will be held from 5-7 p.m.

“Come meet board members and volunteers, learn more about volunteer opportunities, and enjoy the refreshments,” Andrew said. People planning to attend are asked to call 678-423-1700.

“Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 12. You can volunteer in honor of or in memory of your wife, mother, grandmother, aunt or sister as a Mother’s Day tribute to them,” Andrew said.

People who sign up to volunteer “will receive an attractive Mother’s Day greeting card that you can use to announce your volunteer commitment to a loved one or friend,” she said.

“As a Meals on Wheels of Coweta volunteer, you will help older adults continue living in their own homes for as long as possible,” Andrew said. “Our Meals on Wheels clients need you.”

Andrew said there are lots of benefits to being a volunteer.

“Volunteering keeps your mind active, and you discover that doing good for others can lift your spirits and be your testimony of faith,” she reflected. Volunteering is “your chance to practice what your heart preaches.”
