State senators join effort for port funding

A cargo ship arrives at the Port of Savannah. The ports in Savannah and Brunswick provide facilities for importing and exporting products for companies in Coweta County.

Georgia’s U.S. senators have joined U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston in urging Pres. Barack Obama to increase funding to deepen the Savannah harbor.

The harbor project would allow larger ships to dock there, which would likely have a positive impact economically for the state and region. Numerous Coweta businesses import materials or products through the Savannah port, and others export items made in Coweta.
