Police shoot armed suspect on I-185

COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say a gunman has been hospitalized after being shot by police in Columbus.

Officials say police responded to calls Monday afternoon about a shooter firing from a vehicle on the side of Interstate 185, and when officers arrived on the scene the suspect pointed the weapon in their direction.

Officials say an officer fired at the unidentified suspect, who was taken to the Medical Center in Columbus for treatment.

Details on the suspect's identity and medical condition were not immediately available.
