Three suspects are being sought in what authorities are describing as a home invasion armed robbery in which a 15-year-old female was raped.
The incident took place Thursday afternoon at a residence in the Beverly Park neighborhood, south of Newnan off Millard Farmer Road.
Just before 1 p.m., Israel Salis Rodriguez, 26, was at the residence along with a 15-year-old and two children when three Hispanic males entered through the basement door wearing gloves and sunglasses, according to the Coweta Sheriff's Office incident report.
Rodriguez told investigators he was surprised by two of the men when they came up from the basement stairs. The intruders demanded money, and Rodriguez attempted to fight them off. The intruders jumped him, tied him up with extension cords and began punching him and burning his right leg with a lighter, according to sheriff's office Major James Yarbrough.
The 15-year-old told officers that when the intruders entered the home, she was in her room with the two children. When two of the intruders made their way upstairs, the third intruder -- who was armed with a knife and a handgun -- remained in the basement with the three juveniles.
The attacker reportedly put the gun to the female's head and raped her, according to investigators. The two children were unharmed. After a few minutes, the two males returned from upstairs. All three suspects exited through the basement and fled in a vehicle described as a gray, newer model, four-door Chevrolet HHR, said sheriff's Investigator Stan Roughton.
According to Roughton, Rodriguez was able to free himself from the extension cords and pursue the attackers to the intersection of Pine Road and U.S. 29 South where they managed to get away. Rodriguez was unable to get the license plate number before losing sight of them.
The only items taken in the home invasion were four cell phones and a projector valued at $600, according to the incident report. The entire ordeal lasted approximately 30 minutes, said Roughton.
"We're trying to determine why they targeted this family," said Yarbrough.
A rape kit was performed at Piedmont Newnan Hospital on the alleged victim, and that kit has been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for analysis, according to the major.
Investigators were grateful for assistance from Officer Joey Castro of the Newnan Police Department, who acted as an interpreter with the victims.
The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to call 770-253-1502.

D, My heart goes out to the 15 year old girl. The statement "when was the last time you encountered a hispanic person in this county that was LEGAL" was just STUPID. Not all hispanics are illegal.

Home Invasion

It sounds like an inside job that went wrong. The 15 year old probably wasn't supposed to be at the house when it went down and the others were too small give accurate descriptions. They need to talk to the 26 year old again. He knows more than what he's willing to have translated. Home invaders M.O. is to go through doors and windows with an element of surprise, not sneaking through basements unless they were told that a window or door was going to be unlocked. Also, we can't assume that every hispanic is illegal. That's why EVERYONE should be run through 287-G. Perhaps more terrorists would be stopped in their tracks if this were to happen.

rid our county of these criminals
7/21/2008
Never encountered a hispanic male in this county that was legal. That's why we need 287-G. More likely than not, we are "rubbing elbows" at Walmart with MS-13gang members, drugs and human smugglers, rapist, robbers, and murderers. 287-G would rid our county of these illegal criminals. Then there will be alot our local police CAN AND WILL do when they pull another hispanic male with no driver's license and no ins. Please google DUSTIN INMAN and read that GA. families story. It could be any one's son or daughter. WE NEED 287-G!

"Hispanic males"
7/20/2008
Let me just ask it this way... when was the last time you encountered a hispanic person in this county that was LEGAL? Of course they're illegal. The NPD will even tell you there's "QUOTE" - NOTHING they can do about them "because they're illegal!" How retarted is that? "We, the police, can do nothing with them BECAUSE they are doing something illegal (by being here.)" Oh man, y'all - our country is going down the tubes because the powers that be have lost their minds.

287-G

Immigration enforcement training under section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act for state and local law enforcement officers provides an important and necessary tool to help our public safety officers protect our communities. After receiving approximately 4 1/2 weeks of ICE training, state and local police and sheriff's deputies have the authority to help enforce U.S. immigration laws. Once implemented, say a person is pulled over for a simple traffic violation. That person's information is scanned through the ICE database to see if they have holds on them. If they do our officers jail them for ICE to pick up. Many dangerous criminals and gang members have been pulled off the streets of other counties. Here's a few links that will explain better: http://www.ice.gov/pi/nr/0807/080718chicago.htm http://www.thedustininmansociety.org/index.html http://www.gainesvilletimes.com/news/archive/5152/ I've contacted the sheriff's office several times asking when will our county have 287-G. I never get to speak with Yeager personally but I'm always told that he is working on it. Not sure what that means. Anyway, I hope I have shed some light on this very successful program.

287-G
7/20/2008
Every citizen owes it to their self and their children to contact our county officials and push for 287-G. This crime could happen to any one of us. It has been proven in other counties and states that this program works in clearing out undocumented criminals. The 287 (g) program would be a great thing for us because it would help us deal with the criminal element of illegal immigration. Center for Immigration Studies senior policy analyst Jessica Vaughan says the 287(g) program has “already shown phenomenal results” and is “a force multiplier for ICE” — agencies have used it to target problems such as gangs, drugs, human smuggling and document fraud. Cobb county has it and in June alone their jail officials and ICE interviewed 86 inmates, placed immigration holds on 68 and started deportation proceedings against 42.Most of the inmates to whom ICE assigned detainer status, most were in jail because of rape, armed robbery and drug trafficking…. That's the type of criminals that have been caught most from simple traffic stops. Coweta needs to wake up. The more counties that join only pushes criminals into counties that haven't.

I am so tired of these criminals running our justice system... I wonder how these defense attorney's sleep at night--defending someone that is plainly guilty...

send them back
7/19/2008
Why lock them up in America?? so our tax dollars can pay for them to sit in jail?? Send them back to where they came from and let their country deal with them.

I agree
7/19/2008
I completely agree with Stephanie. I hope that they catch the suspects and lock them up for life. Deporting them won't solve the issue because they will do the same thing wherever they're from. However, I am mexican and I am a U.S. citizen so not all mexicans are illegal. It doesn't even state anywhere in the story that the suspects are mexican. Hispanic means any latin country: Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Guatemala...etc. Therefore closed borders has nothing to do with this story.

This disgusts me
7/19/2008
I agree that this story is disgusting and may the suspects be caught and punished to the highest extent but nowhere in the story does it say that the suspects were mexicans, let alone illegal immigrants, so fencing the border is completely irrelevant to this story.

crime in coweta

Looks like the two that abused the children were our everyday white trash. The murderer the other day was our everyday black trash so this crap is multi colored. Just prosecute them and put them away.

Maybe its time for a border fence around Coweta to keep the mexicans out.

Illegal Immigrants
7/19/2008
I am for closed borders. We have heard in the news of gang wars in Mexico, an increase of political asylum requests from Mexico, and seen the economic downfall of their country. Now, they are bringing in all of that to our country - not to mention all of their crime! What happened to rounding up illegals and sending them home? Why can't we close our borders to such crime?

Death penalty? On who?
7/19/2008
These crimes are gang related by undocumented criminals who could be wanted anywhere for the same if not worse crimes. No way to track them because they change their identity. The only way to make our county safer is 287-G program which would allow our officers to connect with the I.N.S. data base to screen for wanted criminals. These screens are based on finger prints, tattoos, etc. If a wanted criminal is arrested then they are held for I.N.S. to pick up. With the size of our county and proof of gang activity, why has this program not been set up? It is Federally funded.

My heart goes out to the family, I will be praying for all of them. I pray mostly that those low life mans be caught. I will pray for the healing of the young girl who was raped. May God bless the family with a speedy recovery.

Its easy
7/19/2008
Ways to be safe are reinforced doors, burglar bars on all doors, windows, alarms, and off site video survelliance. Now if you don't want to spend the thousands for that then don't be a target. Target for these type invasions are people who keep cash at home. Like business owners who take cash home, illegal immigrants who don't trust banks, drug dealers are the biggest victims. As far as deadbolts, now they stay together as the door frame shatters.

Death penalty
7/19/2008
I think they should change the law to where rape (and murder) is an automatic life sentence, no parole..People who are doing this type thing need to beware, most of us have guns now.

How do people break in like this
7/18/2008
I wish they would include details that might help the rest of us be safe from these people who are still on the loose. Did they BUST in the basement door somehow (and if so how) or did they come in through that door because it was unlocked or something? Are deadbolts enough to stop an invasion like this? If not, what is?
