Human remains found in woods near Grantville

by Wes Mayer

The remains of a 56-year-old man who had been missing for around seven weeks were found in the woods near Grantville on Sunday, but no foul play is suspected in his death.

The remains of Wesley Robert Spearman, 56, who was first reported missing on July 25, were found in the woods off the 1300-block of Bethlehem Church Road on Sunday, said Lt. Col. Jimmy Yarbrough with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office. His body has been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for testing, but there is no foul play suspected at this time.

Authorities were able to identify Spearman by his ID card found nearby, and a boxcutter was also recovered. According to Yarbrough, Spearman had a history of bipolar disorder and depression, but his death is still under investigation.
