Truck theft suspects caught red-handed

Four Miami men were arrested Sunday and Coweta County authorities say they caught them red-handed attempting to steal two 2015-model pickup trucks from the Newnan SouthTowne auto dealership on Bullsboro Drive.

Around 11 p.m. Sunday., Coweta County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies and Newnan Police officers were dispatched to the SouthTowne dealership, where two suspicious males were reported attempting to break into vehicles. According to Lt. Col. Jimmy Yarbrough with the sheriff’s office, when authorities arrived, they found the two men, identified as Jefferson Bernard Joseph, 39, and Samuel Mack Wesley, 35, trying to remove the key boxes from two large pickup trucks with a power cutting tools, and they were both taken into custody.

Authorities discovered both Joseph and Wesley were from Miami, Yarbrough said, so they knew the two men didn’t walk to the dealership and must have a vehicle somewhere. Units later found a gray Ford Fusion nearby with two more men inside, Jeffrey Jean Bonica, 32, and Courtney Antwan Rolle, 28 – both also from Miami – and they were taken into custody.

The two pickup trucks Joseph and Wesley were caught breaking into at the SouthTowne dealership were a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 71, valued around $50,000, and a 2015 GMC Sierra 2500hd, valued around $45,000, according to Yarbrough.

Both Joseph and Wesley were charged with two counts of criminal attempt to commit theft by entering auto, and Bonica and Rolle were both charged with two counts of party to the crime of theft by entering auto, and all four were transported to the Coweta County Jail.
