The Georgia Commission on the Holocaust and Newnan High School have teamed up to bring the traveling exhibit “Witness to the Holocaust” to Coweta County.

“Witness to the Holocaust” chronicles the life of William Alexander Scott III. Scott served in a segregated battalion in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was also a civil rights activist. His father founded the first black-owned daily newspaper in Atlanta, “The Atlanta Daily World.”

This exhibit will be shown throughout Georgia, and will be at the media center of Newnan High on LaGrange Street through Sept. 26.

A NHS teacher, John Garner, contacted the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust about bringing it to the school.

“I just wanted to bring history alive and get the kids out of their desks,” he said.

Stephen Quesinberry, head of the history department at NHS, is excited about having the exhibit for the students.

“It’s something we’ve never done before, this type of an exhibit,” he said. “We think it’s a neat thing in general, but especially for the students.”

“Witness to the Holocaust” will be on display through Sept. 26 for all Coweta County educators and students. Teachers and parents that are interested may contact school media specialists Courtney Stillwell and Kathie Vickers.
