A man who once interned at the Newnan/Coweta Boys and Girls Club was arrested by Coweta County authorities Monday following an investigation into a reported child molestation.

On Aug. 7, authorities with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 100-block of Waterford Place east of Newnan in reference to a child molestation, said Lt. Col. Jimmy Yarbrough with the sheriff’s office. According to Yarbrough, investigators learned the suspect, Michael Jordan McFarland, 21, was caught molesting a juvenile whom he was not directly related to.

On Monday, McFarland was arrested and charged with counts of child molestation, aggravated child molestation and aggravated sodomy, Yarbrough said. Because McFarland once interned at the Boys and Girls Club, McFarland’s case is still under investigation to see if there may be additional charges of child molestation.
